A little about myself:
I grew up in Southern California and moved to the Bay Area in 2003. I have studied child development, social and behavioral sciences, cultural and global studies, nutrition, anthropology, sociology and communicative sciences and disorders. I have associate degrees in: child and adolescent development, anthropology, liberal arts with an emphasis in social and behavioral sciences, arts and humanities, and cultural and global studies. I am currently in my last term at Utah State University where I will receive my bachelor's in communicative disorders and sciences with the goal of incorporating speech pathology services into my childcare program. I begin my masters at The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire in June of 2026. I have over 28 years experience in the childcare field as a preschool teacher, nanny and home daycare provider. I absolutely love working with young children and have dedicated my career to infant and toddler care. My focus has been helping infants and toddlers adjust to the world outside of their home in a positive manner and assisting new families achieve balance in their busy lives. I have a wonderfully blended family; together we have four children ages 28, 19, 16 and 6 years old.
My Personal Philosophy
I believe that children are society's most valuable asset and we must strive to give them the tools they need to become productive and compassionate individuals. Children should be able to explore and experience every aspect of their environment; I have worked to create such a place. I welcome the mess and the questions. I see value in the mundane. I believe we are here as caregivers and parents to guide our children. To show them through our interactions that they are valuable and that the world is a safe place just waiting for them to make an imprint.
As caregivers, one of the biggest gifts we can bestow upon the children in our care is to teach them not only how to learn but to love learning as well. Ongoing growth and learning has shaped and improved my life throughout the years. It has allowed me to adapt well to the changes life brings, make better decisions and create the life I want for myself and my family. I have made it a point to impress upon my children and the children in my care the importance of learning, problem-solving, critical thinking, reasoning and intuition. Encouraging infants to question, explore and investigate their environment is how we teach them to learn. It may seem like a natural process but in reality as caregivers and parents we have great influence on children's learning. We must work to create an environment where learning, problem-solving and exploration is plentiful. Children need to make mistakes, try new things and be heard. We need to answer those repetitive questions without frustration. A caregivers frustration tells a child to stop learning, to accept what is and to be quiet. We want our children to ask questions and look for answers until they gain understanding. If we help children work through their frustration and confusion we allow them not only to find solutions but also to realize they are in fact able to solve problems independently. There is not much in life as fulfilling as success! Competency is the greatest gift we can give our children.
It is important to spend time focusing on social and emotional development; this is the cornerstone of their overall development under five years old. Infants and toddlers require focus on how they feel, how their actions affect the way others feel and how to appropriately react when they feel a particular way. Learning to process emotions is often overwhelming for young children; they look to caregivers to "fix" how they feel when upset. This is our opportunity teach them how to express feelings in a positive manner and even change their actions to avoid particular negative feelings . This allows young children to make better decisions. My goal is for children to be able to venture out into a bigger center for pre-kindergarten feeling secure in who they are and knowing how to interact with their peers in a positive way.
A Little About Our Center
At Campbell Infant & Toddler we strive to provide more than childcare. We provide each child with individualized care geared to their developmental needs and based on their families schedules, needs and lifestyle. As a parent myself I understand how important small details can be and have developed a program that thrives on: parent-teacher communication, family involvement, and caregivers who are educated, compassionate, and flexible. Our goal is to assist you in these early years of parenting, we feel it is important for parents and providers to work together. Sharing knowledge and experience helps us all better understand and meet the needs of our children. Unlike most home-based centers we do not serve children of all ages. Rather we focus on caring for children 6 weeks through 5 years of age. This allows us to better meet the needs of the children in our care and help prepare them for the larger centers they will move onto for kindergarten readiness. At Campbell Infant & Toddler we utilize ILS ( Indirect Language Stimulation) as a means to promote early communication skills; encouraging children to become aware of phonemic differences and appropriately apply language in a way that drives further phonetic development.
We are a home-based childcare center that operates like a corporate center without the large setting, profit focus, and impersonal nature. At our center you will find all of the best aspects of large corporate centers such as: cleanliness, strict adherence to licensing protocols, college educated staff, developmentally appropriate lesson planning (Mother Goose Time Curriculum) and practices, excellent parent teacher communication, use of daily logs/apps for transparency/accuracy and developmentally appropriate designed classrooms.
Being a home-based center we can provide such care without the downsides that accompany institutionalized corporate childcare. Downsides such as: high teacher turn over, over crowded classrooms, children shifting from room to room throughout the day to allow centers to cut staffing costs (for infants this can be extremely traumatic resulting in a lack of trust and consistency), greater exposure to illness due to the large amount of people babies are in contact with daily, lack of flexibility, fixed nap and meal times which do not allow for an infants natural routine, less interaction between caregivers and infants due to high ratios and center protocols and last but not least center profitability being the focus rather than the best interest of the children, families and staff.
